The Challenge
Jacksonville, like many American cities, is navigating real pressures in its justice system. Costs are high, facilities are stretched, and too many people who pass through the system go on to reoffend - a cycle that is expensive for taxpayers and damaging for communities.
There is growing agreement across the political spectrum that smarter approaches can deliver better results: safer streets, stronger neighbourhoods, and better use of public resources.
The Bridge Institute’s Role
The Bridge Institute is convening leaders across government, business, and civil society in Jacksonville to find the real points of leverage - the places where focused effort can shift the whole system. We are currently meeting with key stakeholders across the ecosystem. Our first priority is to understand the challenge deeply before we design the response.
Our Approach
What if the answers are already here? What if courageous leaders - from government, business, and the community - could come together to design something that actually works? Something that protects people, reduces costs, and gives individuals who've served their time a real path back to work and community.
We believe the breakthrough solutions are already in the community. We aim to bring together courageous leaders, trusted mentors, inspired employers, and the young people most at risk and equip them to co-create something powerful and lasting. The first phase is to identify the points of leverage in the system. Potential points of leverage are illustrated below by the work of systems thinking pioneer Donella Meadows.
The Bridge Institute is meeting with all parts of the ecosystem to determine the points of leverage that will uplift the whole system.
What's Next
The Bridge Institute is aiming to host a Breakthrough Summit in Jacksonville in the latter part of 2026 - bringing all parts of the ecosystem together to design bold, lasting change. The Summit will help all leaders to:
- See differently – uncover the real root causes of the challenges.
- Convene courageously – bring together unexpected allies.
- Create breakthrough – where insight meets possibility and action.
- Sustain transformation – through Changemakers and Impact Teams.
