The Philippines Health Breakthrough

To tackle the Philippines’ most urgent health challenges — from healthy schools to ending tuberculosis.

The Challenge

Health inequality runs deep across the Philippines, with communities facing barriers to care and some of the world’s highest rates of tuberculosis.

The Bridge Institute’s Role

The Bridge Institute launched the Philippines Health Breakthrough Programme to tackle these urgent health challenges. Ministries, NGOs, schools and businesses came together to co-design solutions that are bold, inclusive and sustainable.

The Purpose and Opportunity

There is a historically significant opportunity to eradicate tuberculosis in the Philippines. Through an innovative, already tested and proven, protocol of a one-stop-shop centred around total community screening, a profound reduction in illness and death from tuberculosis can be achieved across the country.

Our Approach

Two clear priorities emerged:

  • Inspire healthy living in schools.
  • Design community-led prototypes to help eradicate tuberculosis.

Impact So Far

The programme is still unfolding — but it is already enabling whole systems to come together on health and education, producing cross-sector prototypes for healthy schools and combatting tuberculosis.
